ST. LOUIS - A feisty 102-year-old woman in St. Louis got to scratch another item off her bucket list Sunday: getting arrested.
Edie Simms was handcuffed and put in the back of a St. Louis Metropolitan police cruiser -- but it was all in fun.
The officers escorted her to the Five Star Senior Center to deliver a batch of homemade gifts. She’s been making scarves and blankets and other items for residents for years. A volunteer there is friends with a cop and she arranged the bucket list “arrest.”
“She said, ‘Oh that’d be wonderful and said, ‘Do you think that they’d put the handcuffs on me?’” The center’s executive director, Michael Howard, told The Huffington Post Monday.
Howard said Simms was quite proud of the handcuffs and even showed them off to a passing cop.
“Edie held her hands up to show that she had the handcuffs on!” Howard told the Huffington Post. “She’s just such a neat lady.”
And Simms’ secrets for a long, happy life?
"Keep going, don`t ever stop whatever it is you`re doing and spend some time doing community service. Sometimes the person you reach out and touch is the only person that they will talk to in a day," she told KLDR.
Simms practices what she preaches. She has made over 400 items for the senior center.
