Macon Police are sponsoring a number of programs this summer designed to connect officers to the communities they serve.
Tuesday on Eyewitness News Mornin', police spokeswoman Jami Gaudet previewed the Family Fun Fest, targeting families with young children.
She said the evening, programmed with youth-friendly activities, will give children a chance to interact with law enforcement in an upbeat setting. Gaudet said she hoped young people will come to view uniformed officers as a friendly presence in their neighborhoods rather than a threat.
That event is scheduled for Friday, June 1, from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. on Cherry Street in Downtown Macon.
A second event, titled Macon Spirit: Do One Thing, includes community volunteer opportunities in a number of areas on Saturday, June 2.
Gaudet explained how to get involved in both events on Eyewitness News Mornin' Tuesday.
