Chief Burns: New Evidence in Giddings Case is "Encouraging"

    • Macon Police Chief Mike Burns says new evidence coming in from the GBI and FBI in the Lauren Giddings murder case looks "encouraging."

    He could not describe the evidence.

    The Mercer Law grad's dismembered body was found outside her Georgia Avenue apartment on June 30.

    Her former neighbor, Stephen McDaniel, is in the Bibb County jail charged with her death.

    Burns said Wednesday that he plans to meet with Bibb County District Attorney Greg Winters in the next few weeks, to discuss taking McDaniel to a grand jury for indictment.

    McDaniel also faces unrelated charges of burglary and child exploitation.
