One salon in Central Georgia is standing up to cancer. Strandz Salon in Warner Robins will host their annual 'Cuts for the Cure' Sunday.
Sylvia Pry, a regular at Strandz, says she's glad the salon supports finding a cure, because breast cancer is close to her heart. "I have a sister that has breast cancer. Luckily, right now, thank God, she's in remission, so we keep our fingers crossed all the time," says Pry.
Owner of Strandz, Kristi Harrell, says her aunt lost her fifteen-year fight against breast cancer a couple of years ago. That's one reason giving to the Susan G. Komen Foundation is so important to her. "It's important to do what we can do, and we can do hair, so that's what we do," says Harrell.
Once a year, Strandz hosts Cuts for the Cure, an all-day event where all the proceeds go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
"We do $10 minimum donation for manicures and $20 minimum donation for haircuts," says Harrell.
This is the third year Strandz has hosted the event. Last year they doubled their donations. This year Harrell says they hope to triple them.
On top of haircuts and manicures, they'll offer massages and raffle tickets for a gift basket.
Pry won the giveaway last year and says, "Everything they have in this shop is in that basket: freebies for haircuts, colors, manicures, and goods from Bare Minerals."
For the whole month of October, everyone who donates $10 to finding a cure gets a pink strand, or hair extension.
Harrell says the more people that come out, the more money they raise and the closer we are to finding a cure.
You can join Strandz Salon and show your support Sunday from 1pm-5pm at Houston Commons, located on S. Houston Lake Road in Warner Robins.
