Meet Benny Watson

Age:

61

Occupation:

Retired, Bicycle Mechanic at Oconee Outfitters

What is your connection to Central Georgia?

I was born here in Milledgeville.

Who/what is the biggest influence in your life?

My father. He just showed me how to do things.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned (or advice) that you’d like to share with others?

Life’s going to have come good times and some bad times and sometimes life is going to knock you down. You just have to keep going.

WMAZ

Have you ever been knocked down in life?

Too many times. The reason I talk like this is because I had throat cancer 9 years ago.

But you survived it? What was that process like?

Yep. I’m still here. It was hell. I’m not going to relive it for you, but it was hell.

Life-changing/significant moment in your life?

In the last couple of years, both of my sons have graduated from college with a master’s degree, and my wife has her master’s. I got people who can take care of me.

What are your hobbies/what do you do in your free time?

Well, I work here because I love bicycles and I ride bicycles a lot.
