If you can't get to the polls in Georgia this season, an online ballot system could make voting a little easier for you.
Georgians who are overseas and members of the military, including those in the United States, can now receive their absentee ballots online instead of by mail.
Secretary of State Brian Kemp says the new system's biggest advantage is speeding up absentee voting.
He says, "If they're on a boat somewhere or at a remote base, if they can just get to a computer and printer, they can simply print the ballot and mail it back."
To sign up for an online ballot, voters can click the "My Voter Page" link on the Secretary of State's website. Then, you can log in to the site and apply for your absentee ballot.
The ballots will be sent in an e-mail January 21st. Voters must print out the ballot, fill it out, and mail it back to their home county's Board of Elections.
Some military members say the system will help encourage people to vote.
Staff Sergeant Charles Hendricks from Robins Air Force Base says, "My last deployment was during the last presidential election, and I was worried that my vote wouldn't be counted. This seems like it's really going to help a lot of our members, especially with security and knowing their vote is going to count."
If you are a civilian in the United States, you still need to use the paper absentee ballots. Kemp says so far there are no plans to offer online ballots to all Georgia voters.
The deadline for registering for the Georgia primary is February 6th.
