GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities say a U.S. Marine from northeast Georgia has been transferred to a U.S. hospital as he continues to recover from injuries caused by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.
The Times of Gainesville reports that Pfc. Sean Adams returned to the U.S. this week and is now receiving treatment at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.
Relatives say doctors amputated parts of the 19-year-old's legs. He also suffered a shrapnel injury to his left eye, lung injuries and ruptures to his ear drums.
Authorities say Adams was checking roads and searching for improvised explosive devices in the village of Kajaki on Friday when he stepped on one.
Adams is a 2011 Chestatee High School graduate.
