Bibb County firefighters turn up the heat for good cause

Bibb County Firefighters are hard at work making sure people stay safe and full this Thanksgiving.

Five different fire stations spent the day frying up 200 turkeys to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Between frying and wrapping, dozens of Bibb County firefighters are working hard to give families turkeys and fundraise.

“I appreciate them spending their time to help with the fundraiser,” says Chief Jeff Sanders.

Sanders says this fundraiser is close to his heart.

“My son Brandon was diagnosed when he was five, and he’s 22 so that’s been about 17 years ago,” says Sanders.

But Sanders says his son is healthy and doing well, so he says there is a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

“On a day like today, I am thankful for what we've got especially all these guys who come and help out for this cause,” says Sanders.

One of those guys is Jacob Potts.

“I’ve known Brandon almost my whole life,” says Potts.

Potts says he grew up with Brandon at the fire department because of their dads.

“You can say he’s suffering, but in his eyes he’s not suffering at all. He deals with it. He makes every day the best day of his life,” says Potts.

Potts says he is thankful to be able to help give back to the association.

Even though Sanders cannot spend the day with his son, he says he is thankful for his family at the fire station.

“They work hard, and I appreciate it not only for just M.D.A. but also as a fire department,” says Sanders.
