Macon Beer Company creates new beer to honor, benefit veterans and their families

The company's latest beer creation is called Macon Valor and will honor veterans.

The Macon Beer Company started brewing the first batch of its new beer with a few military members on Tuesday.

The new beer, called Macon Valor, will honor veterans, according to the owner of the Macon Beer Company, Yash Patel.

Macon Valor is an American Lager and central Georgia's first craft Lager.

In addition, Patel says 10 percent of the proceeds from the beer, both craft and canned, will go toward helping veterans and their families, hopefully through local organizations.

"We get a lot of military personnel that come in here and drink a lot of the beer; so, I wanted to do something to honor them because we have a lot of beers that honor other things," Patel explained about the new project.

Air Force veteran, Dale Melton is one of the veterans involved with the process of creating the beer. He says he's been working with the company since the project started.

"There are lots of needs that can be addressed, so 10 percent of any accumulation sales would be really beneficial," Melton said.

He says he will carry the work he did in the military, answering the nation's call with him forever.

According to Patel, the logo for the beer is in the works. Local artist, Thomas Heald will create the design.

There will be a tasting for the beer in about a month.

The Macon Beer Company is located at 345 Oglethorpe St. in Macon and can be reached at (478) 216-7117.
