Monopoly style board game promoting Houston Co. businesses for sale this holiday season

Houston County Family Connection created a Monopoly style board game called Hoco-opoly that promotes the businesses in the area.

A local organization found a unique way to raise money around the holidays this year.

Houston County Family Connection created a Monopoly style board game called Hoco-opoly that promotes the businesses in the area.

Executive Director Tian Foss says the game is almost exactly like the original Monopoly board game except Houston County businesses, who contributed funds for a spot on the board, are featured rather than the businesses featured on the original game.

Each business will receive a copy of the game.

She added that a similar game was created for the city of Warner Robins back in the 1980's that sits in the welcome center, which is where she got the idea.

The Houston County Family Connection is an organization focused on children and families in that community.

"We bring together community partners, communities, agencies, city government, anyone who is interested in how we can improve the lives of children and families in our communities," Foss said.

She says they look at data to decide what the organizations can do collectively to make a larger impact for the community.

The board game can be purchased at Gottwals Books, the Museum of Aviation gift shop and the International City Farmers Market.

The organization purchased 500 copies of the board game, and Foss says she has sold roughly 100 since they arrived last week. Each copy costs $26.75 with tax included.
