New food delivery app coming to Macon-Bibb

Regional marketing director Shaun Tousignant says it connects people with local restaurants.

A new app in Macon can bring you food at the push of a button.

"Maybe you love this local restaurant, but you can't get out," said WAITR regional marketing director Shaun Tousignant.

Tousignant says the answer is to use his company's app, called WAITR. According to him, it connects people to restaurants like Chico and Chang.

The restaurant pays WAITR a percentage of the sales from the app, and in return, business owners like Ning Chang hope it boosts business.

"It's the trend now -- people order online, everything is about the apps right now, so we went with WAITR," said Chang.

According to Tousignant, every order placed, regardless of the amount of food ordered, is subject to a flat $5 delivery fee.

He says the app benefits workers, too. According to him, WAITR aims to hire between 100-150 people in Macon for part-time and full-time roles, most of them behind the wheel.

Since the company held its soft opening in Macon Monday, he says about 40 new drivers have been on the road for the company, including Alexus Glover.

"I love the delivery, I'm very friendly. I love the people that I meet," said Glover.

She says she needed a job and was thrilled when she got the good news.

"When they hit me up and told me to come for an interview and they gave me a chance [and] gave me the job, to be hones,t I ain't know how to act. I just kept telling the man, 'I thank you sir, I thank you sir,'" said Glover.

According to Tousignant, WAITR employs around 3,200 drivers in several states and has delivered over 5 million meals since 2015.

If you'd like to join the team in Macon, Tousignant says you can apply online at waitrapp.com or on the WAITR app by clicking the menu button at the top right and then selecting 'Become a driver.'
