Georgia hangs on to close victory over Bears in first round of NCAA tourney

The Mercer Bears remarkable season came to an end Saturday afternoon as they fell to 4 seed Georgia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The 4th seed Georgia Bulldogs and 13th seed Mercer Bears battled at Stegeman Coliseum in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, and Georgia held off a late rally from the Bears as they beat Mercer 68-63.

Mercer trailed by 11 points in the 3rd quarter, but stormed back to make it a one point game, but the comeback would fall short as the Dawgs won their 21st straight game against Mercer.

This wraps up a historic season for the Bears. They made their first trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history, won their first Southern Conference Tournament Championship, and even set a new program record for winning 27 straight games. They finished the season 30-3.
