WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama says he won't take no for an answer on his jobs bill, even though Senate Republicans have blocked action on his plan.
Obama says he will keep rallying support and pushing for votes in Congress until lawmakers join him in trying to put people back to work.
Obama's $447 billion jobs plan died at the hands of Senate Republicans on Tuesday. The White House and congressional leaders are moving forward on alternative ways to pass measures in the bill, including breaking it into smaller pieces.
Obama says the Republicans opposed to the plan are saying no to tax cuts for the middle class and jobs for teachers, police officers and firefighters.
Obama is speaking at the American Latino Heritage Forum.
