A Gordon man is accused of fatally shooting a man in Wilkinson County Thursday afternoon.

Sheriff Richard Chatman say 22-year-old Zachary Beck is now in custody and charged with murder.

He said Beck is now in the Chatham County jail and deputies will return him to Wilkinson County Friday night.

He gave Beck's address as 344 Milledgeville Highway, Gordon.

Chatman said he is accused of killing 54-year-old Ronnie Rozier during a robbery.  The sheriff says Rozier was shot at least two or three times during a robbery at his home, 1988 Parker Springs Church Road. That's off Highway 441, north of McIntyre.  Chatman says Beck took money but would not say how much.

He says the two men apparently knew each other. There was no sign of forced entry to the home, he said.  No one was home at the time.

Chatman says Rozier's wife found him around 9 p.m. He says the first call came in as a medical problem, shortly after investigators ruled the death a homicide.  GBI crime scene technicians worked through Friday morning collecting evidence.

Rozier's cousin Sonya Rozier says he was well-known in the community and recently retired.

"Could bring you to life, you could just have a conversation with him and joke around and he would make you laugh," said Rozier.

Chatman credited community tips helped crack the case.

"Had people coming from all out of the woodwork saying they saw this and saw that and that's what helps us solve crimes," said Chatman.

The GBI is also investigating. Crime-scene tape surrounded the home in rural Wilkinson County this morning.
