A state agency says it's closed two barbecue restaurants in north Macon and Milledgeville that owed the state more than $108,000.

The Pig in a Pit restaurants, at 1687 Bass Road in Macon and at 116 West Hancock St., Milledgeville were both shut down Wednesday. A sign in the Macon restaurant says it's been closed by the state Department of Revenue.

Customers who had not heard about the shutdown were still coming to the front door of the Pig in a Pit in north Macon on Sunday.

State officials confirmed the shutdown but declined further comment.

But state records obtained by 13WMAZ show that the Milledgeville restaurant owed the state more than $36,000 in unpaid sales and withholding tax, interest, penalties and fees. The Macon restaurant owed more than $72,000, the records showed.

No one answered the phone Thursday at the two restaurants.
