Kathleen Man Killed In Early Morning Wreck

A Kathleen man died Monday morning in a highway accident in Dodge County.

Dodge County Coroner Joe Smith identified the man as William Allen Spangenburg, 44, of Kathleen. The accident happened just after 5 a.m. on U.S. Highway 341 (Golden Isles Parkway) at the intersection with the Jaybird-Helena Dirt Road.

According to a sheriff's news release, Spangenburg was driving a pickup truck and ran into a tractor-trailer hauling logs.

Spangenburg was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the log truck, Chad Eric Metz, 34, of Rockledge, Georgia was not injured.

The accident is under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol and its Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team.
