The Twiggs County Sheriff's Office says a woman was stealing people's identities while filing their taxes.
Tuesday morning, Sheriff Darren Mitchum said they arrested 37-year-old Jackie Young Elvine, who faces 43 felony charges.
They include 18 counts of computer fraud, 18 counts of theft by taking and seven counts of identity theft.
"For one person to be charged with 43 felony counts, seven of which is identity theft, it's pretty big," says Sheriff Mitchum.
Mitchum says Elvine worked at Sample Tax Service in Jeffersonville, directly across the street from the sheriff's office, and stole her customer's identities.
The building on Highway 80 where the tax service business used to be is now open under a different name-- Blacc's Fashions-- but Tuesday, a closed sign hung in the window.
Neighbors say Elvine still used the location as a tax service even after Sample Tax Services moved out.
Sheriff Mitchum says the investigation took about two years and more arrests are possible.
"It's very positive," Mitchum says, "it's gratifying to know that you put this amount of work into something and you actually get a positive result."
Elvine made bond on May 25. According to Sheriff Mitchum, a court date has not been set.
