In less than two months high school football practices will be in full swing. For the time being squads around the state are staying sharp with football camps far and wide, including a unique setup at Jones County.
Greyhound offensive coordinator Lee Hamner organized a quarterback and receivers camp for the first time in hopes of getting a little extra work in with area quarterbacks and wideouts.
Joining Jones Co. this year are Baldwin, Wilkinson Co., GMC, Twiggs Co., and Stratford.
Hamner's camp differs from the usual 7-on-7 team format, giving players an opportunity to get some instruction and hone their skills without someone on the other side of the line of scrimmage.
"In 7-on-7 you got a defense out there and you don't necessarily get as many routes and reps in," Hamner said. "Our big thing here is teaching them what we're doing, then we get a quality bunch of reps and that's what we're trying to do. We figure the more times you run something the better you're gonna be at it."
The camp wraps up Wednesday.
