Two candidates for Macon City Council went toe to toe and face to face in our studios Tuesday morning.

Ward 1 councilwoman Elaine Lucas and challenger Chris Horne, both Democrats, were the guests on this weekend's Close Up with Randall Savage.

They discussed the issues but also got personal, and their exchange rolled on even after the show ended.

During the show. Horne responded to a question about Lucas' claims that Republicans talked him into running:

Chris Horne: The only person that put me in this race is Elaine Lucas, it is years of failed leadership. Look at East Macon, just look at when you go home, look at what's around you on your way to work. Look at what's around you. Are you happy with 24 years of leadership like that?

Elaine Lucas: "I'm so tired of him downing the area, if he doesn't like the area he needed to have made some improvements."

Chris Horne: "I love the area."

Elaine Lucas: "Or join me in making improvements or he needed to move out and go to where his Republican friends are. Maybe they could take care of him like they're doing with providing him funds to run, his friend Andrew Blascovich is Mayor Reichert's campaign coordinator or whatever, who worked to talk him into running and the Republicans Erick Erickson, Bill Knowles, Susan Wood. Those folks have endorsed him. They are Republicans, and so if it looks like a duck, if it quacks like a duck, it's a Republican duck."

Chris Horne: "You have no idea what you're talking about."

Elaine Lucas: "It's a Republican duck, Chris."

Chris Horne: "Andrew Blascovich is my friend, we play softball, I have friends..."

Elaine Lucas: "He talked you into running."

Chris Horne: "No."

Elaine Lucas: "Into running..."

Chris Horne: "You did, you did."

Elaine Lucas: "You came and qualified at the last minute."

Chris Horne: "If you had turned this area into what it could be, I wouldn't have run, yeah, 'cause no one else would, and it's sad."

Elaine Lucas: "I have a record and I am glad to present that record."

Chris Horne: "All you do is divide people. You cannot move this community forward by dividing people, and that's what you do best."

After the taping concluded, Horne accused Lucas of threatening him after she said, "Stop being so ugly to me and then I won't have to get you back."

You can watch the full Close Up at noon Saturday and at 6 a.m. Sunday on
