Three houses in the college Hill area of Macon are preparing for a journey.

They're being moved to make way for the second phase of the lofts at Mercer Village.

Signs alerting people of the big move hang throughout Mercer Village and into the Beall's hill neighborhood in Macon.

Jennifer Mayer, with Historic Macon said, "You see these houses very historic and they're on the National Register since the 1800's and then they're moving to their future."

The Historic Macon Foundation and Mercer University partnered to pull these homes, built in the 1890's, about one mile.

Mayer says they plan to restore and sell them once they're moved to their new home on Oglethorpe Street.

"That area is in the Beall's Hills neighborhood which is a huge project that Historic Macon has been working on for quite some time," said Mayer. "Not only is it about restoring homes, but it's about the neighborhood revitalization of Beall's Hill."

Mercer owns the homes and donated them for conservation.

Larry Brumley, Vice President of Marketing says Mercer Lofts' builder, Sierra Development, footed the bill for the move, and he says the cost for the relocation is more than what the homes are worth.

But it's all in the name of preservation.

"Mercer to take it on to move these house rather than just demolish them is something wonderful," said Mayer.

Crews worked at the old and new locations on Thursday.

As the area that's held the homes for more than 100 years gets set for it's new chapter, Brumley says the Lofts should open in July of next year; moving the old and making way for the new.

The homes start their journey on Saturday at 7 a.m.

Historic Macon invites people to come out to Tattnall Square Park to see the relocation.

The move should wrap up on Sunday.

On Saturday, Macon Police say they will close Montpelier Avenue, Coleman Avenue and Ash Street from Mercer Village to Ross Street. Ross will also close.

On Sunday, Ross Street and parts of Oglethorpe will be shut down.

Macon police ask that you avoid the area if possible.
