The Bibb County School District has a new mission statement.
The School Board voted to approve changes Superintendent Romain Dallemand made to the district's core values, mission and vision statements Thursday night.
The former mission statement read "Our mission is to provide a high quality education for all Bibb county students in a safe and comfortable environment and to make use of all human and technological resources in preparing graduates for post high school objectives."
"It was very ambiguous," said Dallemand. "It was very wordy. And not a single person, when we asked, knew what the mission statement was word for word."
So board members changed it to read, "Each student demonstrates strength of character and is college ready."
Dallemand said the new statement is more specific and makes a better foundation for the district-wide strategic plan he will present next year.
Board members also approved a new theory of action, new core values and a new vision; "Develop a highly trained staff and an engaged community dedicated to educating each student for a 21st century multi-ethnic, global economy."
