The Junior League of Macon hosted its first "Book It" 5K Run and band party.
Runners gathered at the Matthews Athletic Center at Wesleyan College.
The run began at 8 a.m. and more than 300 runners ran for the cause. The money raised goes to support and improve childhood literacy and school readiness in the Central Georgia community.
Junior League member, Andrea Goff says she laced up her sneakers because the need for literacy improvement is great.
"This event and some other ones that we have done has been brought together to give them new books, not only the books they get are they benefiting from but also their parents are reading to them and it's kind of getting the family involved in literacy," said Goff.
The fundraiser continued with a band party Saturday night at the Blacksmith shop.
