Elko native Quintin Williams dreamed of playing in the NBA. It didn't work out that way, but he's OK with it.
His success came with a shoe design he submitted to the shoe company Power Force. They held a contest, and the Alabama-based Power Force selected Williams' shoe design.
This selection came as big news for the Savannah College of Art & Design graduate. He had been looking for a job ever since graduating last winter.
Williams' design took just a few days to complete, he said, and it left him with a good feeling. Power Force thought the same thing and surprised him with a phone call saying his design placed first.
"I was with my mom and brother, and the CEO of Power Force says, 'You got first place,' he said. "We were screaming because we knew the $25,000 was mine and my shoe was going into production."
On top of the prize, Power Force flew Williams out to New York City to unveil his show with a special presentation.
When all of the excitement settled, Power Force gave Williams one last bit of good news: they hired him full-time as a designer.
