Bibb County Sheriff's investigators have filed additional charges against a man arrested for shoplifting at the Walmart on Zebulon Road. According to sheriff's office spokesman Lt. Sean Defoe, deputies arrested Richard Todd Connor, 29, just minutes after he allegedly stole several Blu-Ray DVD's from Walmart.
Investigators say when the store's loss prevention officer approached him, Connor reached into his waistband and showed a handgun. At that point the officer called the Sheriff's office and deputies stopped the suspect near Mercer University at the intersection of Wellworth Avenue and Winifred Way. Investigators found two pellet pistols resembling handguns and several Blu-Ray DVD's during the traffic stop.
According to deputies, the suspect attempted to give them a false name but was later identified as Connor. After his arrest, Bibb Sheriff's investigator Tania Greer determined that Connor was also a suspect in a shoplifting at K-Mart on Tom Hill Sr. Boulevard in November, 2011. At that time, more than $700 in video games were taken. When loss prevention officers tried to stop the suspect, he displayed a handgun. After reviewing surveillance video from the store, investigators developed Connor as a suspect.
Connor is being held at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center on charges of aggravated assault, theft by shoplifting and giving false information.
