Macon city council members want to make it easier for small businesses to get on their feet.

Monday night, the appropriations committee voted to lower the price of business permits for companies within business incubators.

The incubators allow companies, like the 567 on Cherry Street, to share spaces and resources to help curb their start-up costs.

Alex Morrison with the Urban Development Authority says, "There could be some public-private partnerships that allow for more services, more technology services to be provided to start businesses.  It basically gives people who have an entrepreneural spirit a place to go so they might take their business concept from an idea phase into an implementation phase."

Council members hope the ordinance will set up the legal framework and encourage more companies to use the incubator model.
