According to the US Geological Survey -- the federal organization that monitors ground movement -- a magnitude 2.7 earthquake struck six miles south of Sparta at 9:51 p.m. on Tuesday.
Viewers in Baldwin, Hancock and Washington counties told us on Facebook they felt an apparent earthquake. One viewer said she heard a loud bang.
The USGS reported the quake was also felt in Putnam County.
The USGS did not immediately list the quake on its website last night, but now it says it was a "light" quake with no damage reported.
