Macon police are commending two officers who saved a wheelchair-bound man who was trapped in a drainage ditch.
A news release says officers David Clemons and Jeremiah Moneypenny responded to a "Person Down" call on Jeffersonville Road after 3 a.m. last Thursday, July 12.
The wheelchair-bound man, whom police do not identify in a media release, was strapped in his electric motor chair and almost entirely submerged in the ditch.
Clemons and Moneypenny jumped into the water-filled ditch, freed the man from his wheelchair, and pulled him out of the ditch to safety.
It's unclear how the man ended up in the ditch.
"Their excellent response time and strategic actions enabled them to bring the man to safety," Willis said. "Clemons and Moneypenny are great examples of officers serving and protecting."
The man wasn't hurt.
