The 51-year old man found bleeding on a sidewalk Saturday morning has died.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says Albert Jelks was pronounced dead at the Medical Center of Central Georgia at 4:50 Thursday afternoon, five days after he was discovered, unresponsive.

According to a police report, officers were called to the Vineville Market strip mall Saturday on a report of a person down with a gunshot wound to the head.

Police found Jelks lying on the sidewalk in front of the Sleep Shop, breathing but unconscious.

Emergency responders advised that Jelks' injuries were from blunt force trauma, because they didn't see a gunshot wound.

The front door of the Sleep Shop was unlocked, but police say there were no signs of a robbery or burglary.

Shop owner Mark Swan says Jelks worked in his store off-and-on for several years.

He says he gave Jelks permission to use the store computers to buy and sell baseball cards online, and suspects that's why he was there Friday and Saturday.

Jelks' sister previously told 13WMAZ she believed he was the victim of a random act of violence. She says doctors told the family there was no way the injuries that put him in a coma could have been caused by a simple fall.

Leon Jones says Jelks was in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit when he died.

So far, investigators have no leads in the case.  Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-877-68-CRIME.
