Tuesday evening, a week before the July 31 primary, 13WMAZ hosted a debate on the proposed Macon-Bibb County consolidation.
In support of HB1171, the law authorizing a referendum on consolidating the governments of Macon and Bibb County: attorney Jeffrey Monroe and former Macon City Councilman Mike Cranford.
Both active in "Macon-Bibb Wins Again," the lobbying group for consolidation.
Opposition to the bill featured current Macon City Councilwoman Elaine Lucas and Councilman Tom Ellington. Each are concerned with the impact of the bill's mandated budget cuts which would be up to $31 million by year five of consolidation.
