A Jones County deputy is being called a lifesaver after rescuing a man from a burning trailer late Wednesday.
Fire Chief Don Graham says it happened around 11 p.m. at 3559 Joycliff Road.
He says Deputy Rod Whitehead saved the life of Robert Brown, who is being treated in the Medical Center of Central Georgia for smoke inhalation.
The trailer was destroyed.
Graham says Whitehead was patrolling the neighborhood when he noticed fire coming from the small trailer.
Whitehead broke in through the front door and found Brown, who was sleeping on a couch near the front door.
Graham says Brown stood and fainted, probably from the 800-degree heat. Whitehead carried him out to safety. Brown did not suffer any burns, he said.
He said the cause is still under investigation, but the fire may have been caused by a cigarette.
