GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a Gainesville man's drowning is believed to be the 10th such death on Lake Lanier this year.

WSB Radio reports that 25-year-old Spencer Dye drowned in the lake northeast of Atlanta around 6 p.m. Monday.

Georgia Department of Natural Resources spokeswoman Melissa Cummings says Dye was swimming with a friend in the Bolling Mill area. His friend was able to pull him from the water and start CPR but that effort was unsuccessful, and Dye was later pronounced dead.

Cummings said 10 drownings on the lake is a relatively high number. She said four to seven drownings occur on the lake in a typical year.
