People trying to get a new driver's license or renew an old one may be out of luck today because the Georgia Department of Driver Services has experienced a statewide computer outage Tuesday, according to their website.

The website doesn't say when the outage will be fixed, but that they expect it to be corrected "soon." The notice mentions that the outage does not affect Road Test Appointments, Written Exams and Motor Vehicle Registrations.

The full notice reads:

We are currently experiencing a statewide outage of issuing license and identification cards. We expect the problem to be corrected soon. Appointments for Road Test, Written Exams and MVR are not impacted by the outage. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Driver's License Offices Are Open Tuesday - Saturday. Tuesday is typically a very busy day, so please plan ahead, or you may use our Online Services 24/7.

This comes after recent guidelines changes that require drivers to renew licenses in person with proof of citizenship and residency documents. It is unknown whether that plays a role in the outage at this time.

13WMAZ's Austin Lewis will have details on this story later today.
