A man told Montezuma police he was robbed and shot by two men he met over the Internet while trying to sell a home security system.
Randall Coker says the men showed up at his home and tried to rob him of the security camera at gunpoint.
Coker says he and the robbers fought over the gun and he was shot in the hand, according to a news release.
Police Chief Eric Finch gave this account of the case:
Police learned of the shooting and robbery after responding to an accident on Highway 26 around 11 a.m. Thursday.
Officers found a gray Chevy S-10 pickup left running off the highway.
They learned that the driver and the passenger had left the vehicle. One man ran toward a home on Peed Pond Road and another ran into the woods.
Officers started searching homes on Peed Pond Road, found a house that had been robbed. They arrested Benjamin James McLemore of Warner Robins.
While officers were searching homes for the two men, they received a call that a man was in a local hospital after being shot.
The victim, Coker, said he was robbed by two men who were driving a gray Chevy S-10 pickup.
Police say officers from Montezuma, Oglethorpe, Marshallville, Macon County, Dooly County, Houston County, Schley County, Georgia State Patrol, Georgia State Patrol Aviation Unit and Americus Probation searched the area of Highway 26 for about four hours.
About four hours later, someone reported a suspicious vehicle with Houston County plates. Police say the driver, April Attaway, was there to pick up the second suspect, Jason Lamar White of Perry.
Police say Attaway called White, and officers were able to detect his location on their cell phones through Google Earth.
They pushed him out of the woods on Highway 26 and both Attaway and White were taken to Macon County Jail.
The alleged robbery victim, Coker was also arrested on probation violation and not registering as a sex offender.
Back at Coker's home, officers arrested anoher man, Marcus Wesley Brannen, for violating probation.
White and McLemore are charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. White was also wanted in Houston County on warrants for aggravated assault and being a sex offender.
Attaway is charged with aiding a fugitive.
Police say further charges are pending.
