HINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - A new policy restricting visits with students is drawing opposition from some parents in Liberty County's school system.
The Coastal Courier reports that the policy requires 24 hours notice for campus visitation requests and that visitors have an administrative escort.
The policy, adopted in May, also allows parents one 20-minute observation per semester unless federal regulations require different procedures.
Kristina Barnard, whose daughter is in first grade at Joseph Martin Elementary, says she thinks the policy is too restrictive, and builds a wall between parents and teachers.
Liberty County Deputy Superintendent Cheryl Conley said the policy came on recommendation from the Georgia Emergency Management Association.
GEMA spokeswoman Crystal Paulk-Buchanan said the organization's school safety coordinators conduct site assessments and make recommendations.
