COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say another man has drowned in the Chattahoochee River, marking the fifth such death in the Columbus area within a month.

Columbus police Lt. Warren Dunlap said the 54-year-old man was swimming in the river about 6 p.m. when he went under.

Dunlap told The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer (http://bit.ly/Tm9mCP ) that the man became caught in the current and couldn't break free. His body was pulled from the river Tuesday evening. His name wasn't released.

Earlier, 30-year-old Krystal Brown and her 11-month-old son Mister Brown died Aug. 13 after she went into the river for her 3-year-old son, David Brown. The 3-year-old was rescued and flown to Atlanta, where he died days later.

Also, 23-year-old Jarvis Willis died while swimming with two others on Aug. 19.
