Mayor Robert Reichert's long-waited Second Street Revitalization Project is in full swing this weekend. He has invited people to stop by the Armory Ballroom in downtown Macon to draw out some ideas.
The goal isn't to color inside the lines, it's to make Second Street better.
Douglas Park, who has lived in Macon for the past seven years, says he wants "a greater amount of green space," and "maybe a few more parks."
"It's about drawing what the Mayor wants to do on the road," says 5-year-old Josh Beall who came with his father.
"We don't need another high speed path through downtown Macon. We need something that's pedestrian friendly, bicycle friendly, retail friendly," says Mayor Robert Reichert.
This is part of Mayor Robert Reichert's plan to revitalize Second Street, from the Coliseum to Mercer University, to create a more unified downtown by revamping street and transit systems.
"The easy connectivity between east to west has been missing," says the Mayor Reichert.
A solution? Beall suggests a bike path and more green. "So we can bike to the park. It ends at the park," he says.
The initial work of the Second Street Corridor is funded by the $8 million of SPLOST money.
Huntley Partners and CHA Company spearheaded the discussion.
The last chance to pick up a marker and draw your idea is Tuesday. Huntley Partners and CHA Company will report complete this report by March 2013.
"We will present this city with what we think is a very implementable plan to take Second Street where it is today to where the citizens have told us where they want it in the future," says Project Manager Daniel Foth.
