Despite expectations that Wilkinson County schools would reopen Tuesday, superintendent Aaron Geter tells 13WMAZ that the doors will be closed one more day.
Over the weekend, a main broke and shut off water in Irwinton, closing schools for Monday as service was being restored.
Even with the city's water up and running again, Jonathon Snow with Snowco General Contractors said the area would be under a 24-hour boil advisory.
Geter says the extra day out of school is due to tests the state of Georgia requires before allowing children to use the water again and that, he says, "takes a little while" to complete.
While the students are out, staff is expected to show up for work at 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
By Wednesday, Geter expects the schools to "return to normal."
