The Bibb County Courthouse was renamed Monday to honor the late Judge J. Taylor Phillips.
Phillips' wife and two children, along with a slew of friends, gathered in front of the courthouse on Mulberry Street to witness the renaming ceremony.
A commemorative plaque was also unveiled.
He began to serve from the bench in 1964 and was re-elected eight times. Phillips served as a judge for 48 years as well as a professor for 30 years at Mercer Law.
Bibb County Commissioners voted unanimously to rename the court house in his honor.
