Lt. Mark Cotton was just 49 years old when he passed away Sunday.
He suffered a "cardiac event" due to an enlarged heart, Macon Police Chief Mike Burns said at a Monday press conference.
The city's SWAT commander and training director, Cotton was a well-respected officer who served on Macon Police Department for 27 years.
To other law enforcement officers and civic leaders, he was also a friend.
13WMAZ's Judy Le spoke with some of them Monday to gather some of their memories.
