EVANS, Ga. (AP) - A 14-year-old Grovetown boy has been sentenced to two years of probation in the death of a 13-year-old girl.
The boy and two other teens were at the girl's house on Halloween when the boy found a 12-gauge shotgun lying on top of a gun case in the master bedroom. Prosecutor Rodney Brown says the teen checked the gun, thought it was unloaded and pulled the trigger. Three buckshot pellets hit Kristen Burnette in her head and the girl later died.
The Florida Times Union reports juvenile court judge Doug Flanagan has also ordered the teen to undergo counseling, attend a decision-making class and visit schools to talk about the consequences of improper use of firearms.
