The Effingham County Industrial Development Authority gave approval to move forward with plans for Medient Studios Inc. to build a $90 million movie studio.
The Savannah Morning News reports Medient is a global film production and distribution company with a strong presence in India and North America and the Georgia facility will add 1,200 jobs.
The Savannah paper reported, the campus will be built on property owned by the Industrial Authority along Interstate 16. It will be environmentally friendly, with no carbon-producing vehicles and with health care, day care and schooling for workers and their families.
According to the paper, the site is near Savannah, which is in bordering Chatham County.
Effingham beat out New York and Pennsylvania for the project, and in Georgia, knocked off Savannah and Atlanta, said Manu Kumaran, the company's chairman and chief executive officer.
Kumaran said, Savannah's weather and lifestyle were big draws.
