- A backpack, left behind in a theater at Macon's Amstar 16, sparked a bomb scare Sunday.
- Customers were evacuated out of precaution.
- The backpack only contained children's belongings, like clothes, diapers, books.
Moviegoers at the AmStar 16 were evacuated after Bibb County Sheriff's deputies responded to a possible bomb threat.
That was around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
A customer found a backpack in one of the seats and a theatre employee called the authorities, says Sean DeFoe, Sheriff's Office spokesman.
However no bomb threat was called in, DeFoe says. The evacuation was out of precaution.
Witnesses told 13WMAZ's Jennifer Moulliet they were evacuated about 40 minutes into the new "Iron Man 3" movie.
After examining the contents of the backpack, Bibb deputies told 13WMAZ's Judy Le that the backpack had diapers and children's clothes in it.
Recently deputized by Bibb Sheriff David Davis, the Macon Police Department's Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit was in a position to help with this weekend's scare, according to a news release.
Amstar's staff is working to find the owner of the back pack.
Macon-Bibb County Firefighters also assisted deputies on the call.
