BARNESVILLE, Ga. -- A suspect in a fatal hit-and-run in Barnesville Saturday was arrested and charged on Tuesday night.
Bobbie Jo Sumner, 39, has been charged with striking and killing 20-year-old Alex Desir as she walked on a sidewalk along a stretch of highway in Barnesville just before midnight Saturday.
That's according to Barnesville Police Maj. Craig Cooper.
A second suspect, Robert King, was also arrested in connection with the incident. King is Sumner's ex-boyfriend, according to Cooper.
The 2004 Saturn Vue that hit Desir was recovered and processed by the Spalding County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Unit, Cooper said.
Desir was walking to Huddle House where she worked part time, while attending Gordon College in Barnesville, studying to be a nurse.
According to Dee Philips, Desir's aunt, Barnesville Police called her to confirm the arrest on Tuesday evening.
Cooper said the investigation is ongoing and charges are still pending against both Sumner and King.
