A Macon teenager was killed in a one car accident Thursday in Effingham County.

According to Effingham County Sheriff's Department spokesman David Ehsanipoor, 13-year-old Kaylah Hawkins was a passenger in a white car headed east on Interstate 16.

22-year-old Jacob McCullough, Hawkins' brother, was driving the car and attempted to get around a vehicle that had slowed down in front of them. The car then went off the road and hit a tree.

Ehsanipoor says Hawkins, McCullough, and the two other passengers were all wearing their seatbelts.

Hawkins was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

McCullough and the other two passengers went to local hospitals, but their injuries were not life-threatening.

Ehsanipoor said the group was traveling to Tybee Island for vacation.
