A suspect in the Zodiac shooting that left a teenager dead was arrested yesterday night and was in court the next day.
Johnifer Dernard Barnwell had his first appearance in the Bibb County courthouse this afternoon.
The 27-year-old was wanted for attempted murder and criminal participation in gang activity.
As Judge Cedric Leslie read the charges, Barnwell said he wanted a commitment hearing, where police are asked to explain the charges against him.
That led to a testy exchange between the suspect and the judge.
"Why try to make that happen?" Leslie asked.
That's when Brett Steger, another suspect's lawyer stood up and said, "Please don't fog my chances."
Leslie then told Barnwell, "You can have a commitment hearing in two weeks."
"I do what I want," Barnwell said in response.
Another suspect, Miranda Victoria Pettiway, who drove the alleged drive-away car has also been charged with murder, attempted murder, and criminal participation in street gang activity.
She will be tried in the Superior Court.
Eight people face charges in the shooting and death of 17-year-old Jammoni Bland.
