Cochran Mayor Michael Stoy said the city received site development plans Monday from engineers and architects who want to build a Walmart Supercenter in the city.
The plans purpose building the store at the southwest corner of Dykes Street (Hwy 23) and Hwy 87 behind the Shell gas station.
Kimley-Horn Engineers and HFA Architects, both representing Walmart, want to build the 69,170-square-foot store on about 8.20 acres of land.
The property is zoned for retail use, "such as the proposed Walmart," Stoy stated in a Tuesday news release.
"The city's approval of the site development and architectural/structural plans does not guarantee that Walmart will construct the store," Stoy stated in the news release. "The city will advise the community once building permit applications are received from Walmart."
The proposed store would include retail, grocery and a pharmacy.
