HALL COUNTY, Ga. (WXIA) - Authorities in Hall County said a 38-year-old man was arrested after they said they found him naked and acting irrationally.
On Wednesday afternoon, at about 4 p.m., deputies responded to a call in the Bill's Circle area of North Hall County and found Keary Maurice Nicely completely naked and behaving irrationally.
Investigators said Nicely became aggressive and attacked the deputies, forcing them to defend themselves using pepper spray, a Taser and batons. They said none of the measures had an effect on Nicely. They said Nicely then swam into a lake and held onto a nearby dock, refusing to come out of the water.
Boats from the Hall County Fire Department and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources arrived to help, but Nicely still refused to come out of the water.
Given his violent nature and the fact that Nicely was able to resist other non-violent means of control, the Hall County Sheriff's Office SWAT team was dispatched, and used shotgun bean-bag rounds, 40 mm foam impact rounds and specialized concussion grenades with rubber pellets to subdue Nicely. He was finally taken into custody about 45 minutes after the first deputies arrived.
Nicely was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for examination after his arrest, where he remains in stable condition. Investigators said they did not know the exact reason for his behavior, but said there was a strong likelihood of synthetic marijuana use. Once he is released from the hospital, Nicely will be charged with two counts each of felony obstruction of officers, misdemeanor obstruction of officers and terroristic threats - plus one count of disorderly conduct and one count of providing false information to officers.
Two Hall County deputies were treated for minor injuries they received during the initial confrontation with Nicely.
