Kids, parents, and pets filled downtown Forsyth Thursday night dressed in their Halloween best.

The city blocked off two streets, so people could safely roam from store front to store front collecting bags of candy.

"It just seems more open. So the children are around and the parents can see where their kids are," says Charlotte Mathis.

Some groups offered games and some zombies from Jackson surprised the crowd with a flash mob to "Thriller."

After kids had their fun and filled their buckets with sweets, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office offered free x-rays to check their bags for any tricks mixed in with their treats.

"It's a good thing they implemented that, because it secures the kids as they want to go about and eat the candy when they get home," says Vanessa Williams, a mother from Forsyth.

Many parents say safety was their biggest concern when deciding where to trick-or-treat, while kids say they had one thing on their minds, candy.
