Macon tourism officials reached across the country to Pasadena. Calif. for their new president and CEO.
According to a news release, the Macon-Bibb County Convention and Visitors Bureau has picked 36-year-old Monica R. Smith to replace Janice Marshall.
Smith is now director of sales and client services for the Pasadena Convention & Visitors Bureau, the news release says.
Ann Smith, head of the local CVB's board of directors said, according to the news release, "Smith is a destination marketing and sales executive whose leadership abilities and her strategic thinking are what we need during this time of change and transition. Her 13 years of extensive knowledge of sales and management will help guide our mission of increasing sales for the new and existing inventory in Macon-Bibb County. Smith has exceptional communication skills with an ability to understand and communicate a vision of the big picture."
Monica Smith, the new CEO, has also has served as vice president of sales for the Newport Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau and as an account executive with the CVB of Greater Cleveland, the release says.
Smith is a native of Jacksonville, Fla, and a Cornell graduate, the CVB says. She plans to live in Macon with her husband and three children.
The agency promotes tourism and convention and visitor business in Macon and Bibb County.
