Dexter Dawson has made the rounds in Central Georgia as an assistant football coach. Dawson's next stop is Jeffersonville, where he will make his head coaching debut.
Twiggs Co. introduced Dawson as their new head football coach Friday morning. Dawson follows Dexter Copeland's nine year run, which featured a 73-32 overall record. The Cobras went 11-2 and were region champs in 2009.
Dawson's coaching career started at Southwest in 2002. After two years with the Patriots he spent a year at Dooly Co. and another at Perry, before three seasons with Wilkinson Co. The Georgia Southern grad spent the last year at Lamar Co.
The Twiggs Co. job is Dawson's first as a head coach. The School Board approved his hire on Tuesday night.
As a result of the coaching change the Cobras did not have spring practices. Dawson says they will begin official Summer workouts June 3rd.
